Something Old, Something Blue! Spirit of Atlanta Announces Return to Original Delta for the 2023 Season

Traditional Spirit of Atlanta logo and typeface makes it’s return for the 2023 season.

ATLANTA, GA - One of the most iconic symbols in the world of drum corps, the original baby-blue delta logo from Spirit of Atlanta, is set to make its return. The corps announced today it will be returning to its original Delta logo in 2023 as part of a rebranding effort leading up to the organization's 50th anniversary. The Delta logo, paired with the corps' iconic baby blue color, has a long history and is one of the most recognizable icons in the activity. First introduced in the early 1980s, it quickly became a symbol of the corps' identity and represented the values that have always been at the core of Spirit of Atlanta - innovation, excitement, and a commitment to excellence.

Over the years, the Delta logo has undergone some changes. In 2012, the logo was updated with a more modern design. While this design was well-received, the leadership of the organization felt that a rebranding effort was necessary to ensure that Spirit of Atlanta remains relevant and exciting as it approaches its 50th anniversary.

"As we looked ahead to the 2023 season and beyond, we knew that returning to the original Delta logo was one of the best ways to honor our history and build for the future," said Jason Burns, Executive Director of Spirit of Atlanta. "We wanted to celebrate the alumni and people that have built this organization while also positioning ourselves for the future. The Delta logo represents the values that have always been at the core of Spirit of Atlanta - innovation, excitement, and a commitment to excellence.”

The rebranding effort is part of a larger strategy to ramp up to the organization's 50th anniversary in 2026. Spirit of Atlanta has been planning a series of events and initiatives to celebrate this milestone, including a special 50th-anniversary show and other activities that will engage fans and alumni.

"We're excited to mark our 50th anniversary in 2026, and even more excited about what we're putting on the field leading up to that special celebration," said Chris Moore, Corps Director. "Returning to the original Delta logo is just the first step in our rebranding effort. Embracing our history while continuing to be innovative in our approach to show design is our focus. It's amazing to be returning to such an iconic and well-recognized symbol. We're really excited about our future!"

The return to the original Delta logo, paired with the corps' iconic baby blue color, and the rebranding effort signify an exciting new chapter for Spirit of Atlanta. While the infield product might be different than what fans saw in the 70's, 80's and 90's, the commitment to innovation and entertainment is still a driving force for success. With a renewed sense of purpose, Spirit of Atlanta is poised to continue its legacy as one of the most beloved and respected drum and bugle corps in the world.
