Spirit U

Spirit of Atlanta is proud to present SPIRIT U – our educational camp series for students, band directors, parents, boosters, and anyone who participates in marching band/drum corps programs anywhere.  SPIRIT U is the only summer band camp in our area where you can experience what it is like in a DCI World-Class corps.  You’ll get up-close and personal with staff and members of Spirit of Atlanta – and even get to perform with them! What is Spirit U?   For students aged 12-18, it’s a 3-day overnight camp where you will learn from top quality instructors and grow your abilities in marching and movement, brass, woodwind, percussion, or colorguard performance, leadership skills, physical fitness, and much more.

You’ll also have the opportunity to meet, mingle, and rehearse alongside members of Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps, who will be finalizing their spring training and preparing to depart for their summer tour. The Spirit U experience wraps up with a special performance by the participants, joined by Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps as they prepare to debut their summer production.  Led by Education Director Gary Gribble, the Spirit U team includes current and past members of Spirit of Atlanta’s instructional team, as well as highly-sought-after directors and clinicians from programs around the southeast US.

It’s a fantastic first step for anyone who has a dream of marching in a DCI corps.  In our first two seasons alone there were multiple Spirit U veterans who earned a contracted position in Spirit of Atlanta the following year! For adults including Band Directors, boosters, parents and volunteers, Spirit U features a day of highly-informative educational sessions about how your program can grow and thrive.  Featured topics have included the role of marching bands, legal issues facing programs, health and conditioning concerns, integration of electronics in a successful program design, fundraising, recruiting, and much more.
